Drive From Louisville to Lexington by Way of Bardstown

Heine Brothers is a comfortable, contemporary coffee shop across the street from the charging station. It's a convenient spot to grab breakfast while waiting for your car. The business roasts its own brand of organic, fair-trade coffee beans, which taste great in lattes, cappuccinos and other drinks. Some of the treats are sweet (like banana bread, scones and muffins) or savory (like egg biscuit sandwiches and wraps). The coffee shop is cozy, but usually has plenty of seats available.

An hour should be plenty of time to give your EV a full charge. Walk back over and get ready to see more of Louisville.

The Louisville Mega Cavern is an old limestone mine that runs underneath the city of Louisville and now operates as an expansive underground business space and entertainment attraction.
Arrive by 10 a.m. to take part in the 10:30 a.m. Mega Zips tour. You'll enjoy the thrill of an action-packed guided excursion with six underground zip lines, two challenging rope bridges and a newfound appreciation for the history and geology of the cavern.
Play it safe by booking your tickets in advance online. Tours are offered daily, but check the schedule to confirm the latest information.

After working up an appetite at the Louisville Mega Cavern, drive down Bardstown Road, a stretch that's popular with locals for bars, restaurants and independent businesses. Enjoy lunch at the original Wick's Pizza, a longtime Louisville favorite on the corner of Baxter Avenue. Hand-tossed pizzas are the specialty, but you can also wolf down wings, pasta and "breadwicks" (breadsticks slathered in butter, garlic and Parmesan cheese).
Wick's doesn't typically take reservations, but you can call ahead +15024581828 with any questions or place an order in advance online.

Drive south to Bardstown, which markets itself as the "most beautiful small town in America" and the "bourbon capital of the world." Head straight to the Jailer's Inn, which operated as the Nelson Capital Jail in the 1800s and is now a nine-room bed and breakfast. It's believed to be one of the most haunted buildings in Kentucky and you can learn about its legacy with a short on-the-spot tour for just a few dollars.
Afterwards, spend a little time walking the streets of Bardstown or sipping on a taste of bourbon next door at the Old Talbott Tavern, which dates back to the late 1700s.

Check in to the Holiday Inn Express in Georgetown, just north of Lexington. The hotel is a short, convenient walk from a nearby charging station (although we'll wait until the following morning to fill the battery). The hotel is simple, but clean and modern, with an indoor pool and complimentary breakfast in the lobby.

Have dinner at Rodney's On Broadway, a restaurant renovated from a historic home in downtown Georgetown. Acclaimed local chef Rodney Jones presents a menu of prime steaks, pasta and seafood in a stately fine dining environment. The dishes pair well with an exceptional wine list or daily cocktail specials. Jones' signature shrimp and scallops entree is topped with a Woodford Reserve cream sauce in a nod to the region's bourbon heritage.

Skip dessert at Rodney's On Broadway and head to Crank & Boom, a craft ice cream lounge in the heart of Lexington's downtown nightlife scene. The business makes its own small-batch ice cream, blended with milk, fruit, honey and other ingredients from local Kentucky farms. The sundaes are indulgent, but adults will appreciate the ice cream cocktails and boozy floats made with premium spirits.
You'll do fine on weekends when Crank & Boom closes at 10 p.m., but you might be cutting it close on weekdays when service ends at 9 p.m. Just make sure to not linger at dinner to give yourself enough time. You can always place an order to go.

Drive back to Georgetown and get a good night's rest at the Holiday Inn Express. The final day of your road trip lies ahead.
