National Old Trails Highway, the path miners took back in the heyday of the California gold rush in the 1920s, runs right down Barstow, CA's Main Street. It became known as Route 66, that iconic road that is forever associated with traveling across America. Start your day here, with a walk up and down Main Street, which is lined with murals and historic markers.

As you mosey along Route 66, stop in Victorville to visit a museum in its honor. This massive space is full of memorabilia, Americana, and nostalgia. From an old jukebox that plays 45s to a peace, love, and vibes VW bus to Route 66 orange sodas, this is quite a collection!

In Hesperia, pull over and enjoy a look at the mountainous vistas of California. This scenic overlook on the Rim of the World Scenic Byway looks over Cajon Pass and down on I-15 and four railway lines. It is unpaved, so wear sneakers or other sturdy shoes.

Pasadena has a rich history, from its time as the land of the Tongva Nation to Spanish colonization to its era under Mexican control to its past as a winter resort town for wealthy vacationers from the East Coast. This museum captures all of that, in numerous exhibits.

Now that you've made it to L.A., it's time to take a look around. The Griffith Observatory offers a view of the famous Hollywood sign, right down into the city. Stay to check out the giant tesla coil and drop a coin into the viewers to look at the town from up on high. This is also where several films, including Rebel Without a Cause, were filmed.
